Goodnight, not goodbye

I’ve been performing live music in the Twin Cities for close to 16 years now; over half of my life. The first time performing, I played drums in my band Paradigm, in “The Lounge” at “The Garage” in Burnsville. I like to tell people we did all Bad Religion covers, but that’s only half the truth. There was some Good Charlotte and Sum 41 in there as well. That first show sparked a fire inside me that has continued to grow, and burns brighter with each song, each gig, each band, and each year.

Reflecting on that, I find myself getting emotional, because I realize that the vast majority of the wonderful friendships I now have, are due to my decision to play, listen, and watch shows. I can’t stress this point enough. Almost every person I am close to and love, I have met through music in one way or another.

If it wasn’t for music, I never would have met Allen, Matthew, or Aaron. I’ve spent five wonderful years playing with Matthew, and 11 years with Allen. These guys are my brothers for life. They have contributed an exorbitant amount of time, energy, and creativity to this band. Their individual talents as musicians, along with our camaraderie, has been one of the highlights of my life to watch and take part in.

I have made a personal decision to take a step back from American Scarecrows. I wish I had the opportunity to give our wonderful fans more forewarning, since these next few shows (Friday, April 1st at The Turf Club, and Saturday, April 2nd at The Icon Lounge in Sioux Falls, SD) will be our last…at least, for some time. But, like I said, it’s goodnight, not goodbye.

Our band has had the pleasure of making two records. We are so proud of that. We have also shared the stage with many killer bands and artists.

I want to thank every person that has ever come to a show, bought a record, or come up and talked with us. You have played a defining role in why we do this, and for that we will always be grateful to you.

Keep listening to records, keep going to shows, and keep being excellent to each other.
Big Love,
